5Good Choice if You Want a Protective Sleeve

By Ferry Rider

I bought the Kindle Fire yesterday and along with it, the Timbuk2 Plush Sleeve (brown). I opted for a sleeve rather than a cover. The Kindle Fire is already quite a bit thicker and heavier than the Kindle 3, which I also own. Since I like to read in bed, I like to keep the weight down, especially when the device whaps me in the head when I doze off. :-) That said, the Timbuk2 Plush Sleeve appears to be well-made and sturdy, as has been my experience with Timbuk2 bags. The fabric is thick, like Gor-Tex. As the photos show, the closures are velcro. The inside material is plush, as the name suggests, almost like a baby's toy. There is ample padding for protection of the device, but that adds to the overall thickness of the sleeve. It's not really sleek, so if that's the look you are going for, this may not be for you. But if you want a sturdy protective sleeve for the Fire, this one is worth considering. Lastly, the fit is not really snug, but is good so that the Fire does not move around in the sleeve.

5Perfect cover for the Kindle Fire!

By brokahontis

The Timbuk2 Kindle Fire Plush Sleeve is awesome! I ordered the Blue/Village Violet one and it's really pretty. I have the Micro Shell Folio Cover by Marware on my Fire, the pink one with the elastic strap to close it, and it still fits perfectly in the Plush Sleeve. Easy to use and very plush. Not worried at all that the Fire will be damaged in my handbag. I like that the Fire is covered completely. The Micro Shell Folio cover is really nice, but still open on the top and bottom. Easy for dust to get into it, especially being lugged around in a handbag. But the Plush Sleeve solves that problem beautifully! If you're looking for some good covers for the Fire, the two I ordered fit the bill to a "T"!

3OK, but should sell for about $20.

This is a review for the TIMBUK2 plush sleeve for the Kindle Fire. It is the first kindle accessory I have purchased for my kindle fire. This is basically a padded envelope for your kindle. The flap is held closed by a couple of Velcro strips. There is foam padding in the walls of the sleeve. Not real thick (maybe 1/8"), but sufficient to provide some protection. The sleeve has a soft lining. The kindle fire slides in and out with just the right amount of resistance. Not too tight: not too loose. Overall, it appears to be well made and should hold up well. At the time I ordered it from Amazon, there were no negative reviews posted. The lowest was 4 stars.

Issues: Sleeve is way overpriced. I would say it is worth $19.95, not the $29.99 on sale price I paid. It does not serve as an easel to hold your kindle in viewing position. It does not have any extra storage space for the charging cable, earphones, stylus, a cleaning cloth, or any other extras you might want to tote around with your kindle. It does not have any kind of handle or carrying strap. I think the case will be awkward to carry when the kindle is inside. The case is slippery, and the kindle fire is heavy enough that you will probably have to hold the case underhanded or risk dropping it. This would not be an issue if you plan to always carry it inside a purse or tote bag of some kind.

One reviewer noted the cross-stitch pattern on the inside of the sleeve will transfer to your kindle, "embedded in the oils your skin leaves on it." I have not noticed this, but I use a micro-fiber cloth to wipe my kindle before I put it in the sleeve. This seems sensible to me. If your kindle is covered with skin oil when you put it in the sleeve, that oil will transfer and accumulate on the soft lining of the sleeve. Eventually, when you slide a clean kindle into the sleeve, it will come out dirty due to the accumulated oil. I like to keep the cleaning cloth handy, so that is one reason I am disappointed there is no extra storage space in this product.

This is very basic protection, but overpriced for what you get.
